Redwood Games is an early-1990s studio founded by programmer Karen Crowther (now Karen Chun). Named after California’s redwood forests, the company later operated from Maui and focused on approachable DOS edutainment with real game feel—side-scrolling stages, simple enemies, and constant learning prompts. Its best-known titles are Word Rescue and Math Rescue (shareware distributed by Apogee), along with their add-ons Word Rescue Plus and Math Rescue Plus. For younger players, Talking ABC’s used the PC speaker for spoken letters, and Pickle Wars showed the team could do pure arcade action too. On that page, they can play these games online for free.
