Digital Café was a St. Paul, Minnesota new-media studio founded in 1991 by Dean Hyers and Mike Koenigs. In the DOS world it’s remembered chiefly for Chex Quest (released for MS-DOS as a General Mills cereal-box giveaway) and its follow-up Chex Quest 2, both built on id Tech 1 as a lighthearted, kid-friendly twist on Doom. The studio blended game development with interactive advertising and promotional media, and in October 1998 it was acquired by the advertising firm Campbell Mithun Esty; soon after, it was folded into the agency network that became Zentropy Partners.
